Twitter takes aim at video with Vine acquisition

Published on .

San Francisco—Twitter has acquired video sharing start-up Vine, which specializes in short clips shared on mobile devices. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Vine, based in New York, was started in June. Its website states that “Vine is the best way to capture and share video on your iPhone. No editing. No rendering. No post-production.” The move may support a more active, direct role in video sharing by Twitter. According to website AllThingsD, Twitter is considering building its own video-hosting technology, enabling users to upload video via its own mobile apps rather than relying on third-party services.
