U.S. mobile ad spending to reach $1.2 billion this year

New York—Spending on mobile advertising in the U.S. will reach $1.2 billion this year, up 65% from $743.0 million last year, according to a new report from eMarketer. By 2015, U.S. spending on mobile advertising will grow to $4.4 billion, eMarketer projected. The figures include spending on mobile ad formats including display ads, search and text messaging on smartphones and tablets. “The rapidly expanding smart device and mobile Internet user populations make advertising on the mobile Web and in apps more of an imperative than ever,” said eMarketer principal analyst Noah Elkin in the report.
