UDDI goes live

Microsoft Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co. and IBM Corp. and 33 other companies said beta tests on the Universal Description, Discovery and Integration project are over. UDDI is a specification designed to give businesses standard ways to find and communicate with other businesses on the Internet. The site, at www.uddi.org, includes templates for inputting such attributes as name, address, phone number, specialty and methods used to conduct e-commerce. The project is significant to sales and marketing executives because UDDI could provide the basic information for customer relationship management or other marketing programs, executives involved in the project said.
