First Union to start marketing drive aimed at women-owned businesses

Published on .

Charlotte, N.C.--First Union Corp. will over the next several months roll out a marketing drive focused on women-owned businesses, said Donna Smart, VP-corporate relations. The initiative will include a Web site launch, and First Union will also seek out strategic relationships with national women's organizations to augment the deal. The bank will also sponsor investment conferences aimed at female business owners. First Union is beginning the initiative in part because internal research has shown that female business owners feel that they are often not taken seriously by financial institutions, Ms. Smart said. The Web site will include business tips, case studies of women-owned businesses, and links to the Web sites of organizations such as the National Association of Women Business Owners (www.nawbo.org), Ms. Smart said.
