United Business Media to relaunch COMDEX as virtual event

Published on .

London—COMDEX lives! United Business Media said last week that it plans to relaunch the famed technology trade show as a virtual event that will take place Nov. 16–17.

UBM purchased the COMDEX brand as part of its acquisition of MediaLive International in 2006. Before it was shut down after the 2003 event, COMDEX attracted about 200,000 visitors and 2,300 exhibitors annually.

UBM’s Everything Channel unit will oversee the virtual COMDEX. The event will feature keynote speakers, conference tracks, exhibits and hospitality suites for private meetings.

“The original COMDEX died because it stopped serving its core customers,” UBM CEO David Levin said in a statement. “We are giving COMDEX a future by going back to its past. Our virtual COMDEX is focused on serving the IT channel, value-added resellers, ISVs and all those people and businesses who make up the IT distribution system. Virtual COMDEX works right alongside and complements the other products and services we provide for the channel and for the wider technology industry.”
