United News to become United Business Media

Published on .

London--Aiming to reflect its renewed focus on business publishing and exhibitions, Britain's United News & Media plc said it would ask shareholders to approve a company name change to United Business Media. United News is homing in on its b-to-b operation after selling the bulk of its television assets to rival Granada Media plc earlier this year for $2.53 billion. United sold Miller Freeman USA to British-Dutch business publisher VNU earlier this year for $650 million in cash in order to focus on a planned merger with fellow broadcaster Carlton Communications plc. When that deal collapsed, United chose to concentrate on its b-to-b units.
