Uphoff to succeed Patterson as head of CMP’s Business Technology Group

Manhasset, N.Y.—Tony Uphoff, publisher of The Hollywood Reporter and president of VNU’s Film & Performing Arts Group, has been named president of CMP’s Business Technology Group, succeeding Jeff Patterson, who is leaving the company. Uphoff, who will be based in CMP’s Irvine, Calif., office, starts work at CMP on Oct. 23. The move marks a return for Uphoff, who was president of CMP’s Business Technology Group in the 1990s. Prior to joining VNU, he was VP-technology media at Advanstar Communications. “Tony is someone who understands customers’ needs and has a sense of what’s happening in the IT market,” said Steve Weitzner, CEO of CMP Technology. “He’s an important guy for us to get.” The Business Technology Group includes InformationWeek, Optimize, TechWeb and Interop, one of North America’s largest IT events.
