Valcon says purchase of VNU is done deal

New York—Valcon, the consortium of private equity firms that for months has been trying to buy Anglo-Dutch media giant VNU for $9.7 billion, this weekend declared victory. The consortium said shareholders representing nearly 79% of VNU’s stock have tendered their stake for the sale. VNU owns Nielsen Media Research, ACNielsen and several trade magazines, including Billboard and Hollywood Reporter. The consortium reportedly said it has no plans to break up the company.
