VeriSign to sell domain name marketing operation

Published on .

Mountain View, Calif.--VeriSign Inc., which classifies domain names on the Web, said it's seeking buyers for its domain name marketing business. At a conference for analysts Thursday, the company said that divestiture would clear the way for an extension of its contract with the U.S. government to operate the database for major Internet addresses for another four years. The database classifies domain names ending in dot-com, dot-net and dot-org. VeriSign said it expects to finalize a deal by the end of April.
