Dell Computer Corp., rolling out major b-to-b e-commerce initiatives, said Monday that it has signed a deal with VerticalNet Markets to distribute up to 35,000 vertical-industry-oriented storefronts. The deal targets customers of Dell's high-end e-commerce servers, as well the computer manufacturer's Internet hosting customers. Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., will sponsor the first year of the program, offering banners and other marketing opportunities to businesses buying into the program. Under terms of the agreement, VerticalNet Inc., Horsham, Pa. will place a company's storefront for each of Dell's high-end server and hosting customers in its targeted vertical industry areas. Dell's sales force will offer the sites for sale to small and medium-sized businesses buying its servers or hosting services.
