San Francisco—Visa USA on Monday named John Philip Coghlan president-CEO, effective immediately.

Coghlan joins Visa after 17 years at Charles Schwab & Co., where he served most recently as vice chairman of Charles Schwab Corp. and president of the Schwab Individual Investor Group.

Coghlan succeeds Carl F. Pascarella, who held the CEO and president titles since 1993. Last July, Pascarella announced his intention to retire from the organization by September of this year.

Also Monday, Visa USA launched a new TV spot for its Visa Business card. The commercial, developed by BBDO New York, is titled "Matrix" and is aimed at small-business owners.

The new spot is part of Visa’s overall b-to-b campaign, with the tagline, "Visa. It’s everywhere you want your business to be."
