Visitors to newspaper Web sites grew 22% in 2006

Arlington, Va.—The average unique audience for newspaper Web sites grew by more than 10 million in 2006, an increase of 22% from 2005, according to a report by Nielsen//NetRatings for the Newspaper Association of America.<p>The unique audience for newspaper Web sites increased to 56.4 million in 2006 from 46.1 million in 2005. Unique visitors in the fourth quarter rose 6.9%, to 57.6 million, from 53.6 million in the year-earlier period.<p>The NAA’s membership accounts for 87% of the daily newspaper circulation in the U.S.<p>—Matthew Schwartz
