Company: VMWare, Palo Alto, Calif.
Agency: N/A
Market: IT
Quick chase: The monochromatic image of a lake whose waters are as flat as a table top strikes us as overly grim. A bridge extends into the water in this banner for VMWare, which specializes in virtualization and cloud computing. But then along come a series of a blue and green mosaic tiles that are used to form VMWare's corporate logo and extend the structure in the image. Still, the image is odd and offputting. The headline is lifeless: “IT without constraints. Business without compromise.” The landing page is much livelier and the information more focused, but the banner has to get you there first.
Clue: VMWare builds a bridge to nowhere.
