London—VNU Business Publications Ltd., the publishing division of VNU Business Media Europe, Thursday announced it has purchased the Inquirer (www.theinquirer.net), a technology news site. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Inquirer, which has more than 2 million unique users, carries news, features, opinion pieces and reviews aimed at buyers, system integrators and industry players in the PC industry. VNU, the parent company of VNU Business Media, was put in play earlier this month when a consortium of seven private equity funds made a bid totaling $8.9 billion for the company. Although the bid is nonbinding, VNU said it is not proceeding with discussions with any other party. Reuters reported Tuesday that WPP Group CEO Sir Martin Sorrell has approached the group of private equity firms about joining the bid. However, Reuters also reported that a spokesman for WPP denied the company was in discussions with the firms.
