VNU confirms plans to buy Miller Freeman

Haarlem, The Netherlands--VNU confirmed it has agreed to acquire Miller Freeman Inc. from United News & Media plc for $650 million in cash. Miller Freeman Inc., which is essentially the U.S. properties of Miller Freeman, includes trade publications, trade shows and Web sites in sports and apparel, travel, real estate and other markets. Miller Freeman Inc. reported 1999 revenues of $214 million. VNU, which publishes Billboard, Adweek and other publications in the U.S., plans to use Miller Freeman's events experience to boost its own trade show efforts, according to a press release.
