New York--VNU appears to have outbid Penton Media Inc. for United News & Media's Miller Freeman Inc., according to published reports. According to The Wall Street Journal, VNU has agreed to pay $650 million for the nontechnology assets of Miller Freeman, although representatives from Miller Freeman and VNU USA refused to comment Monday morning. United announced earlier this year that it planned to sell off assets, including Miller Freeman, to concentrate on higher-growth businesses.
