Haarlem, the Netherlands—VNU, the parent company of Nielsen Media Research and VNU Business Media, reported Wednesday that its revenue declined to $5.03 billion in 2004 from $5.16 billion in 2003.

In constant currencies, however, revenue increased by 2%, according to the company. VNU’s net earnings increased to $216.8 million in 2004 from $172.9 million in 2003, a 25% gain.

Cash earnings before good will amortization and impairment charges totaled $601.2 million in 2004, a 19% gain over $508.1 million in 2003.

VNU Business Media delivered strong results in the trade show arena but advertising remained weak, with the exception of The Hollywood Reporter and other magazines in robust market sectors.
