London—Anglo-Dutch publisher VNU is close to a sale of VNU Business Media Europe to private equity group 3i, according to Friday’s edition of the Financial Times. The sale price was pegged at more than $417 million.
FT said 3i declined to comment but is thought to have been one of the few bidders in an auction conducted by Goldman Sachs and van Tulleken Co. The VNU unit’s assets include U.K. trade magazines such as Computing and Accountancy Age, events and Web sites.
VNU Business Media itself has been in an acquisitive mode. Earlier this year it acquired The Inquirer (U.K.), Silicon.fr. and Tweakers.net, the largest tech news site in the Netherlands.
Parent company VNU was acquired by a consortium of private equity firms last summer for $11 billion.
