VNU sells World Directories group

Haarlem, the Netherlands—VNU announced Sunday that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell its World Directories group to World Directories Acquisition Corp., a legal entity owned by funds advised by Apax Partners Worldwide and Cinven Ltd. The price for the deal was $2.5 billion. World Directories produces telephone books and Yellow Pages directories both in print and online under brand names such as Golden Pages. The group does business in Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Puerto Rico and South Africa. "The transaction allows us to focus on our high-growth core marketing, media measurement and business information activities," Rob van den Bergh, VNU’s chairman-CEO, said in a statement.
