London--VNU NV, the giant Anglo-Dutch publisher, said Monday that it is in talks to sell its educational publishing division to 3i, one of Europe's leading venture capital groups. The sale of the unit is part of a planned divestiture to help pay for the $2.3 billion purchase of AC Nielsen, which provides market research to retailers and advertisers. VNU, which is also seeking to sell its consumer magazine division, said no binding agreement had been made and it expected negotiations to take a few weeks. The education division had net sales of $111 million in 2000. Analysts value the unit at about $354 million, but in the current economic climate 3i could aim for a lower price.
