Volkswagen, Wolfsburg, Germany, announced plans to build an e-marketplace for the company to procure products and services from suppliers. Volkswagen said in a press release that the launch of its online supplier exchange meant it would not be joining the e-marketplace being set up by Ford Motor Co., General Motors and DaimlerChrysler in the U.S. Volkswagen's technology partners in the venture include IBM Corp., i2 Technologies and Ariba. ``In some case this could lead to savings of up to 50% of process cost,'' Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, Volkswagen board member for procurement, said in a statement.
