'Wall Street Journal' ad linage down 30%

New York--Still struggling with a weakening advertising market, Dow Jones & Co. Inc. said Thursday that advertising linage at its flagship The Wall Street Journal fell 30% in July. Meanwhile, general advertising fell 35%, financial linage dropped 27% and classified and other advertising linage was down 11%. Dow Jones's profits have been badly bruised by the advertising slowdown. For the second quarter the company's net income dropped 57% to $43.2 million, or 50 cents a share, while revenue fell 18% to $484.1 million.
