'Wall Street Journal' ad linage drops

Published on .

New York--Dow Jones & Co. reported Thursday that advertising volume at The Wall Street Journal declined 9.3% last month compared with May 2002. Year-to-date advertising volume was down 11.4% from a year earlier. While general ad linage at the Journal was down 22.8% in May--in part due to decreases in public utility, media and aviation advertising--technology advertising was essentially flat, declining 0.3% for the month, thanks to boosts in spending on computer hardware and software marketing.
