‘Washington Post’ names Brauchli executive editor

Published on .

Washington, D.C.—The Washington Post Co. announced Monday that it has named Marcus Brauchli executive editor of the Washington Post, effective Sept. 8. He will succeed Leonard Downie Jr., who is retiring.

Brauchli, who stepped down as editor of The Wall Street Journal earlier this year, four months after News Corp. took over the newspaper, will oversee the editorial operations of both the Post and washingtonpost.com.

“Marcus brings a tremendous wealth of experience, both as a journalist and as an editor, that will help us navigate the new world of media—honoring and building on the standards of journalism blazed by Ben Bradlee and Len Downie—and move us forward to a new and bright future,” Washington Post Publisher Katharine Weymouth said in a statement.
