Web ads grow 5% in January, AdZone says

New York--Research firm AdZone Interactive said Web advertising totaled $1.87 billion in January, up 5% from $1.78 billion a month earlier despite a slowing of the U.S. economy. Internet advertising spending totaled $818 million in January 2000. AdZone, which tracks 125,000 Web sites worldwide, said advertising on the Internet is rising because a wider array of companies are using it. Top advertising sites were AOL.com, ESPNgo.com and NextCard.com, while business sites JobsOnline.com and Ameritrade.com cracked the top 10.
