Web site security checklist

Published on .

• Keep anti-virus systems up-to-date. Nimda, Code Red and other viruses and worms are perhaps the biggest threats today, capable of taking your site down entirely.

• Protect customer data and identity at all costs. Firewalls, intrusion-detection systems and other security platforms protect this information and help maintain corporate trust.

• Realize that popular b-to-b applications—such as customer extranets or supply chain systems—require new levels of security because they let outsiders access your corporate systems.

• Obey corporate security guidelines. Believe it or not, many hackers steal passwords simply by asking users for them or exploiting weak passwords such as "password" or "myname."
