Fairfax, Va.--In a marketing and consulting partnership bid aimed to help it get through its toughest quarter in recent memory, b-to-b collaborative software developer WebMethods Inc. has entered a pact to supply integration platforms to Palo Alto, Calif.-based Hewlett-Packard Co. The deal is a boon for WebMethods, giving its platform de facto global marketing presence through HP's global consulting force. The deal comes less than a month after WebMethods tapped Tom Aitchison, a Kinzan Inc. vet, as VP-sales for the Americas, a newly created position. After announcing a wider-than-expected loss in July, WebMethods announced it was cutting 160 jobs, or 15% of its work force. In recent months, WebMethods has made marketing inroads into the lucrative financial services marketplace, signing a major deal to develop Bank of America Corp.'s b-to-b Web sites. Citigroup, BofA's competitor, is another WebMethods b-to-b financial client.
