The survey of more than 1,000 marketing and IT executives found that 30% of respondents cite lead generation as the primary objective of their Web site; 28% cite e-commerce as the primary objective; and 20% cite media and content.
Nine percent of respondents said their site is designed for self-service, and 7% said they do not know what the primary objective of their company's Web site is.
The survey also examined Web site optimization management within organizations. When asked who owns and manages the Web site optimization process, 38% of respondents said the marketing manager; 36% said the traditional Web development team; and 9% sad IT. Four percent said the process is outsourced, and 14% said no one is designated to own or manage process at their company.
