Published on .

New York—Newsweek said Tuesday that longtime editor Mark Whitaker is stepping down from his post to join the digital division of the Washington Post Co., Newsweek’s parent company, in the new position of VP-editor in chief of new ventures. Whitaker will be based in New York, where he will have the title of corporate editor of Newsweek. John Meacham, managing editor of Newsweek, has been tapped to replace Whitaker. The editorial shakeup at Newsweek comes about a month after chief rival Time installed a new editor, Richard Stengel.
