Wiley acquires another Pearson unit

Published on .

New York -- John Wiley & Sons plans to buy publisher Jossey-Bass from U.K.-based Pearson plc for $82 million in cash to strengthen its position in some markets. Manhattan-based Wiley, a publisher of scientific books and college textbooks, said the acquisition will dilute earnings slightly in the first year, and add to profit afterward. Wiley said the acquisition will strengthen its position in publishing psychology and business titles for professionals, a market that is growing. Earlier this month, Wiley acquired the rights to some college textbooks from Pearson, as Pearson is selling unwanted reference and business publishing divisions. (From Crain's New York Business.)
