WPP to cut thousands of jobs

London—Ad agency holding company WPP Group plans to cut thousands of jobs as a result of the global economic slump, according to company executives.

The cuts will be made primarily at WPP agencies in North America and Western Europe, where the economic downturn has been the most severe. However, the agency said it plans to hire people in growing regions, including South America, Eastern Europe and Asia. WPP employs more than 100,000 people worldwide.
