New York—The New York Times will sell advertisements on the front page of its “Business Day” section, the newspaper reported last week. The ads will appear in a strip along the bottom of the page. Bill Keller, the newspaper’s executive editor, reportedly told newsroom employees that The New York Times is considering cost-saving measures, including shrinking the width of the newspaper. The Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and USA Today have already made similar moves, and The Wall Street Journal announced in October that it would shrink the size of the newspaper starting in January 2007. Keller added that The New York Times is also considering redesigning the paper’s front section, which contains national and international news.
