Yahoo acquires content delivery provider PeerCDN

Published on .

Sunnyvale, Calif.—Yahoo Inc. has acquired content delivery network startup PeerCDN. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. PeerCDN's technology allows for the delivery of data-heavy content, such as images, videos and downloads, without consuming excessive bandwidth. The acquisition is expected to aid Yahoo's expansion into video content delivery, featuring such newly hired celebrities as tech expert David Pogue and journalist Katie Couric.

Yahoo continues to invest in rich-media experiences. Earlier this month the company acquired Ptch, whose mobile app enables users to merge photos and videos into movies with other mobile users.
