Sunnyvale, Calif.—Yahoo Inc. has acquired social recommendation engine Jybe Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jybe, based in Menlo Park, developed an iPhone app that offers users recommendations of activities and other interests based on trends within their social circles. The app will be shut down, with Jybe's staff—all former Yahoo employees—rejoining Yahoo to “supercharge our efforts to build great products and experiences for the millions of people who come to Yahoo every day,” Yahoo said, in its blog.
In addition, Yahoo is in talks to buy a controlling stake in French company Dailymotion, the world's second-largest video-sharing site, behind YouTube, according to The Wall Street Journal. The report said the acquisition would be valued at about $300 million.
