Sunnyvale, Calif.—Yahoo's fourth-quarter global revenue declined 1% from a year earlier to $1.80 billion. U.S. revenue increased 2% to $1.34 billion.

Sales from search ads alone climbed 11% globally to $436 million, as users submitted more queries. Sales of display advertising, in which Yahoo is the industry leader, declined 2%.

The search engine and online publishing company reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $303 million, including a $600 million one-time charge, compared with a profit of $206 million in the fourth quarter of 2007. The most recent quarter included costs associated with 1,500 staff cuts.
