Mountain View, Calif.—YouTube has introduced its own app for the iPhone and iPod touch.
The move comes after Apple Inc. last month said that the preloaded YouTube app would no longer be part of the package in a new iPhone. YouTube is a subsidiary of Google Inc.
YouTube's app for the iPhone and iPod touch includes search tools that enable users to swipe through videos much faster than the previous app pre-packaged in the iPhone. YouTube's new app also features tools to share videos via email, Facebook, Google+, Twitter and text messages.
“The new app is built by YouTube engineers to give our iPhone and iPod touch users the best mobile experience,” YouTube said, in a company blog post. The blog post added that in the next few months the company will release an “optimized” version of its YouTube app.
