New York--ZDNet, Ziff-Davis' online business, posted its first-ever profit in the second quarter, earning $816,000, compared with a net loss of $2.9 million in the same quarter a year earlier. ZDNet's revenue increased 87% over the same period last year to $22.9 million. The number of ZDNet advertisers in the second quarter reached 431, up 49% from 289 a year earlier. The performance of ZDNet's parent company was not so positive. Ziff-Davis' revenue declined to $257.6 million in the second quarter, a 3% drop compared with the same period last year. It cut its net loss almost in half, from $81.7 million in last year's second quarter to $41.1 million in this year's second quarter.
