ZDNet posts stronger earnings

San Francisco--Online technology portal ZDNet, which is being spun off by Softbank Corp. as a stand-alone company later in the first quarter, posted stronger earnings for the fourth quarter and full year 1999. On record revenues of $36.4 million, ZDNet posted net income of $2.1 million for the fourth quarter of 1999, compared with net income of $800,000 in the year-earlier period. On revenues of $104.2 million, ZDNet posted net income of $1.9 million, compared with a loss of $7.9 million for 1998. Overall, advertising revenue increased 102% in 1999 when compared with 1998.
