Ziff Davis cuts 5% of work force

Published on .

New York--Ziff Davis Media Inc. said Friday it is cutting 50 jobs, or 5% of its work force, in the latest round of layoffs among technology publishers. The cuts come after ad pages for Ziff's 13 titles tumbled 36% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, according to Adscope Inc. Ziff Davis, which was acquired last year by VC firm Willis Stein & Partners, publishes several of the biggest tech titles in the market, including eWeek, PC Magazine and Ziff Davis Smart Business for the New Economy. Elizabeth Estroff, a Ziff spokeswoman, said the company does not have a hiring freeze.
