The site, which Ziff Davis intends as an online community for IT professionals, mixes the product reviews of analysts with reviews from enterprise IT professionals.
There are “a host of review sites out there for consumer products featuring opinions from enthusiasts and amateurs. This, however, is the first site designed from the ground up for IT professionals to share their experience with enterprise-class software and hardware systems in a working environment,” Steve Weitzner, CEO of Ziff Davis Enterprise, said in a statement.
The new site is intended to provide more product reviews than can fit into the print version of eWEEK. “There are only so many products that we at eWEEK can review ourselves,” said Managing Editor Jason Brooks.
In addition to user-generated reviews, and ratings and reviews from eWEEK Labs analysts, the site will include discussion forums to solicit peer advice, comparison tools and scorecards. Vendors can submit their products to the site by visiting labs.eweek.com.
“It's a great way for PR people to get their products on the radar,” said Brenda Christensen, public relations director of Servoy, a software company. “I think it's going to take off like wildfire. We all know about Facebook. I think this is kind of like ‘Geekbook.' ”
