Ziff Davis Publishing reports higher earnings, lower revenue

Published on .

New York--Ziff Davis Publishing Inc. reported earnings before income taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of $6.2 million for the quarter ended June 30, an increase of 77.1% from $3.5 million a year earlier. Ziff exceeded its previously announced business outlook of $3 million to $5.0 million EBITDA for the quarter. But total revenue for the quarter down was down 37.3% to $47.6 million. The decrease was because of a 34.4% decline in advertising pages, resulting primarily from discontinued publications and the effects of a weak advertising market, along with decreased royalty revenue related to the termination of an Internet content licensing agreement. Ziff Davis’ Developing Business Segment, which includes Ziff Davis Development Inc. and Ziff Davis Internet Inc. reported combined revenue of $9.2 million, up from $6.0 million, and EBITDA losses of $6.7 million, down from $17.4 million.
