Australian Sex Party Too Sexy for Its Ads?

American Viewers May Be Disappointed by This Post

The Australian Sex Party has a very sexy name. In fact, it may be too sexy. After all, knowing what little we know about Australians and Australian advertising, we'd expect the ads for the Australian Sex Party to be the sort of thing to make our small, puritanical American minds to burst into flames. So before we spend the next three months having our eyes assaulted by some of the worst advertising in America (creatively and ethically), we figured we'd share. Behold:

And this:

OK, there is a flash of nudity in this ad, but it's not in a sexual setting -- or even sexy for that matter. Despite the cheeky name (and that cheeky ad -- ha! get it?), the party seems pretty serious about its mission "to restore the balance between sexual privacy and sexual publicity that has been severely distorted by morals campaigners and prudish politicians." And while there is humor in some of the messaging, what's surprising in how earnest so much of it is.

In America, the party, which hopes to get at least one member elected this cycle, would be classified as progressive libertarian. It's platform has grown to include everything from sex education, euthanasia and gay marriage (for) to censorship, an internet filter and tax-exempt status for religions (against).

I guess that's enough acknowledgment of politics outside of the U.S. for one year. I'm sure we'll be back with some of the craptacular and dishonest work coming out of our own midterms soon enough.
