Trump's First TV Commercial Is Here -- and It's Very Trumpy

How Will We 'Make America Great Again'? The Candidate Explains in 30 Seconds

The man who's been running his presidential campaign almost entirely on an unprecedented "earned media" strategy -- in which he says outrageous things and then sits back and watches as news outlets reward him with millions of dollars of free media in the form of breathless coverage -- is finally spending some cash on good old-fashioned TV commercials. Donald Trump, The Washington Post reports, is set to launch this ad today "as part of a series that will air in the final month before the Iowa caucuses. Trump has vowed to spend at least $2 million a week on the ads -- an amount that will be amplified by the countless times they are likely to be played on cable news and across social media."

The ad doubles down on Trump's recent campaign-trail provocations with a blunt voiceover: "The politicans can pretend it's something else. But Donald Trump calls it radical Islamic terrorism. That's why he's calling for a temporary shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until we can figure out what's going on. He'll quickly cut the head off ISIS and take their oil. And he'll stop illegal immigation by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for." The candidate himself closes out the ad with a particularly blustery rendition of his trademark proclamation: "We will make America great again."
