Berg and Timo Arnall Experiment With Not Touching

By Published on .

Berg, formerly known as Schulze & Webb, a creative design consultancy that works with companies to develop their technologies and strategy (and that will be appearing at Creativity's London CAT Conference), has been having fun with near field communication (NFC), a short range wireless connectivity technology—basically a means for objects to interact without touching.

The Oslo School of Architecture and Design and Touch, a research project dedicated to investigating NFC and developing its practical applications for mobile phone users, enlisted Berg and designer Timo Arnall to "explore the designerly applications for RFID," according to the Berg blog. Their initial experiments yielded this short film, a Fischli and Weiss-inspired Rube Goldberg scenario, but requiring zero physical contact between the various objects.
