To market its new 737 planes, Boeing and digital agency [wire] stone are using Microsoft Kinect technology for an immersive experience. The agency created a seamless hi-res, 17-gigapixel multidimensional photograph of the plane by melding together more than 20,000 images. The photograph is used as part of Microsoft Kinect-enabled installation, which lets users explore the plane from various angles and distances by simple gestures. The project also incorporates Microsoft's Silverlight and Windows Touch technologies.
There is also an online version allowing users to explore from home.
The new technology has made Boeing technology accessible anywhere, from trade shows to exhibitions -- without actually having to bring in any heavy equipment.
