Twenty years ago they might have been ranting in the Cheers bar, but today disappointed Red Sox fans have a new outlet in which to vent their frustrations. Boston Globe-owned website Boston.com has teamed up with innovation labs at Mullen and PointsLocal to launch a beta version of a Twitter-monitoring service called The Pulse/Boston Red Sox.
The service scores how team and players are faring in terms of positive or negative Twitter comments made at home and across the country. Graphs reveal how opinions change from day to day and software is even built to detect sarcasm in comments (apparently very prevalent among Boston sports fans).
Relevant news stories, blog posts, a forum for fan comments, and Instagram photos can also be found on the web page.
