Facebook: Organ Donor

Published on .

Now along with milestones like 'bought a car' and 'graduation,' you can add the day you became an organ donor to your Facebook Timeline. The feature, which rolled out this week, lets you share your organ donor status with your Facebook friends and also lets you link to state websites where you can register to officially become a donor.

In a GMA interview, Mark Zuckerberg said he was inspired to add this feature because of Facebook's role during disasters like the Japanese earthquake in helping people stay connected and reach out -- and his girlfriend, who is studying to become a doctor.

The network also partnered with organ donation awareness organization Donate Life America to raise awareness about the issue of donation. And it's already working: states have already seen a spike in the number of organ donors since Facebook announced the project.
