Sony PlayStation@Store: Insane Immersive Movie Experience

Published on .

A series of virals from Studio Output, seeded by The Viral Factory, aim to highlight the Sony's PlayStation@Store's VideoStore service, where users can rent or buy films in high definition.

Shot in one take, with no post production, the virals bring a living room set to life to showcase the next generation of Augmented Reality, what Sony calls 'Immersive Imaging'. It takes projection mapping as its starting point, but gives the viewer a supercharged experience with the help of the PlayStation Move controller.

The virals combine projection mapping, Augmented Reality technology and traditional special effects, 'immersing' the actor in blockbuster films like Pirates of the Caribbean. Each film starts in a normal living room but when the PlayStation is turned on, the scene springs into action, with worlds inspired by the different film themes emanating from the console and taking over the room. Check out the others here and here.
