Sony Vaio: Rocket Project: We Have Liftoff

Published on .

Sony's Rocket project finally achieved liftoff. Earlier this year, 180 L.A. launched an integrated program that turned some eager young students into rocket scientists, in an effort to showcase Sony Vaio and Intel Chip computing power. The kids teamed up with Tom Atchison of Rocket Mavericks for some serious schooling, and after seven months and some unexpected weather delays, in July they finally launched a 29-foot, 1,100 pound two stage rocket 147,000 feet into the air, achieving a top speed of Mach 2.8. The whole story will be told this fall in a documentary on the Science Channel.
