Stefan Stubbe and Andreas Schmelas: Artificial Smile

Published on .

As students at the University of Arts Berlin, Stefan Stubbe and Andreas Schmelas created this camera that puts a smile on the face of the subject, no matter what mood he or she is in.

According to the project description on OpenFramworks Forum, the Artificial Smile camera "plays with the notion of perfection and auto-retouch." To achieve an always smiling portrait, the camera overlays on top of each shot a happy mouth from a pre-existing pool of smiling faces.
